What is the irony in Ahab and Hiel trying to oppose God's word?
1 Kings 16:34 (ESV)
34In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.
Ahab and Hiel wanted to stifle God’s Word by rebuilding the walls of Jericho. But by doing so, by opposing God’s Word, they open the way for the Word of God to shine through.
34 In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.
