1. Galatians 2:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does Paul mean by saying they added nothing to his message?

Galatians 2:6 (ESV)

6 And from those who seemed to be influential (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality) those, I say, who seemed influential added nothing to me.

With this phrase Paul confirms that salvation does not require law-keeping on the part of the believer.1 The leaders in Jerusalem agreed with Paul that circumcision is not necessary for salvation. They added nothing to the message that he had been proclaiming.2 They agreed with Paul and not with the Judaizers.
