If the reader has read the later verses in this section of the chapter, 1 Kings 6:15 might seem to be confusing. Here the boards of cedar are called coverings of the walls and floor, not the walls and floor themselves. This may seem to be confusing enough, but 1 Kings 6:18 might be interpreted to mean that all was built of cedar to begin with and without the use of any stone. Yet, such a reading fails to make proper notice of the phrase was seen.
This allows us to imagine that there was stone used in the process of construction, but that stone was covered with cedar wood of which the present verse speaks. The baser material existed in the house, but The LORD wanted it hidden from sight. Later on we shall see that for some things there was a second covering of gold, so these items had double coverings.
15 He lined the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar. From the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood, and he covered the floor of the house with boards of cypress.
