1. Galatians 3:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How did Scripture foresee that God would justify the Gentiles by faith?

Galatians 3:8 (ESV)

8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”

The promises made to Abraham involved and anticipated the understanding that people from all nations would be justified in God’s sight through faith, just as Abraham was.1 His justification was paradigmatic2 and testifies to the fact that salvation in the time of the old and the new covenant is the same. It comes through faith in the Saviour (Genesis 15:6; Isaiah 53:1–12; Jeremiah 23:5, Jeremiah 23:6; Matthew 1:21; John 3:16; Acts 4:12; Acts 10:43; Acts 15:11; Romans 3:24; Romans 4:11).3
