The land of Canaan, which God promised to the patriarchs as a gift for their descendants, is now there for the taking. Israel needs to take hold of and enjoy this promise of God. For Israel has a certain right to take possession
of its inheritance, even though such a right is based on God's gift.
8 See, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their offspring after them.’
