Simeon has revealed to Mary and Joseph that their child is not only the Christ (as was previously confirmed by the angel, Luke 1:30–33) but also the promised Servant. Mary and Joseph marvel as they grow in their understanding of who Jesus is and what he will do. Particularly the universality of his work and how it would benefit also the Gentiles would have been a new emphasis to them.1
