Though there is a sense in which Simeon’s words are particularly applicable to Jesus’ death on the cross, where Mary will see her son being crucified, they also apply in a more general sense. Mary will be disappointed to see the opposition that her son faces as he goes about the work that God has given him to do.1 Jesus will bring much emotional pain to his mother.2
