Why are there choice fruits beside the door?

Song of Solomon 7:13 (ESV)

13 The mandrakes give forth fragrance, and beside our doors are all choice fruits, new as well as old, which I have laid up for you, O my beloved.

The door gives access to all choice fruits that she has laid up for the man. This reminds us of the provocative imagery of Song of Solomon 5:2–6, where the young woman, after initially hesitating, opens the door to the man’s desire for sexual intimacy.1 Previously, the door was both barrier and way of access, and the opening of the door was fraught with tension and danger. Now the doors are hung with delicacies, and all the previous tensions have disappeared.2
