All Christian believers have the Holy Spirit dwelling within them (see Galatians 3:2–3).1 Nevertheless, there may have been some among the Galatians who claimed to be especially godly. In that case, Paul is encouraging them to put their claims into practice by restoring an erring brother and to do so in a gentle manner.2 Alternatively, he is calling on mature Christian believers to take the initiative, those whose lives generally conform to the teachings of Galatians 5:16–25.3
1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.
