It is very unlikely that someone would take you to court for your tunic in the time when Jesus ministered. 1 Given the value that it had in society, as well as the fact that it would have been the last possession of an individual, a trip to the court was very unlikely. The idea being conveyed, however, is clear. If someone makes a demand on your property, even if it might be an illegitimate demand for something protected by law, you should not value your possessions above the kingdom. 2 You should not consider your property to be so important that it cannot be given up. For the sake of other believers, our right by law should not be upheld at all costs (1 Corinthians 6:7-11). 3 Christians should be willing to let go of some legal rights when appropriate.
40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,let him have your cloak as well.
