The structure of Hebrews 2:5–18

Hebrews 2:5–18 (ESV)

5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking.

This passage can be subdivided into Hebrews 2:5–9 and Hebrews 2:10–18. The stylistic repetition of Hebrews 2:5 and Hebrews 2:16 (not to angels) provides the framing of the verses in between. Hebrews 2:17–18 constitutes the summarizing close to the passage as well as the transition to what follows.1
