Why does Jesus refer to the hand as a cause for sin?

Matthew 5:30 (ESV)

30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

There is some debate as to why Jesus makes mention of the right hand. Some suggest that the hand is used for sexual stimulation in order to fulfill fantasies. Alternatively, since adultery was considered a form of theft in Judaism, 1 this would naturally link with the hand which is used to take.
