The temple in Jerusalem was plundered three times by Nebuchadnezzar. In 605 BC he took some of the holy objects of the temple to his own god’s temple in Babel (2 Chronicles 36:7; Daniel 1:2). Eight years later he came into the temple again, taking all the treasures with him that were made in Solomon’s time, and also stripping the temple of its gold (2 Kings 24:13). Now, ten years later, everything, even the bronze objects, was taken to Babel.
Do not forget: even Israelites were not allowed to enter the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place of the temple. Only priests were allowed in the Holy Place and only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place. But now the Babylonians entered every part of the temple and put their hands on the holy things of God! One can imagine how the God-fearing people of Judah were pierced to the heart when they saw these things happening.
10 The enemy has stretched out his hands over all her precious things; for she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary, those whom you forbade to enter your congregation.
