What is the reward that the hypocrites have received for their giving?

Matthew 6:2 (ESV)

2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

The hypocrite who gives to be noticed receives his reward there and then. He pretends to give but he really wants to receive,1 and his reward is the notice and praise of men. This is the only reward which they will get,2 they do not receive another reward from God on the day of judgment.3 The supposed act of righteousness (alms giving) was ultimately nothing more than a public relations stunt.4
