1. 1 Peter 5:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Who is meant by the phrase “all of you who are in Christ”?

1 Peter 5:14 (ESV)

14 Greet one another with the kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.

The words all of you refer to each of the saints in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, individually and collectively, irrespective of age or status or position in the churches. Despite whatever social or physical distances that may exist among these saints, they are all in Christ (1 Peter 1:2: sprinkled with his blood), and so blessed recipients of God’s peace. Peter’s closing thought recalls the vertical bond each Christian has with Triune God himself.
