How should the declaration “God has given it into your hands” be understood?
Judges 18:10 (ESV)
10As soon as you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people. The land is spacious, for God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”
These words from the spies sound like a confession of faith! But the use of the generic God, combined with the role that the Levite played in how they sought guidance (Judges 18:6),1 does not give the reader much confidence in the genuineness of this declaration.
10 As soon as you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people. The land is spacious, for God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”
