In Jesus’ own example. In this verse Jesus further illustrates his instruction to the twelve by pointing to his own attitude. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.
As the Son of Man, Adam’s promised son, Jesus is great, greater than any of the twelve. But he came on earth to be a servant there for others who needed help that only his coming could provide. The twelve know from long experience how Jesus travelled among the people, healing and teaching, not ruling and demanding. In this way his most important servants also have to deal with each other. Even more so because Jesus’ service will include the giving of his life as a ransom for many."1
