According to the Psalm’s superscription, Psalm 54 contains David’s response to the betrayal from the people of Ziph. First he prays for deliverance (54:1-2) as he complains that ruthless ungodly men are seeking his life (54:3). He asks the LORD to bring judgement upon them (54:5). Confident of the LORD’s help (54:4), he promises a freewill offering to the LORD in gratitude for God’s faithfulness in delivering him from his enemies (54:6-7) 1 Given the connection the events of 1 Samuel 23, this would be a good song to sing in response to your sermon. It shows us how David reflected on what happened to him. It also helps us to be confident that the LORD will look after us.
