Leviticus 17:10–12 address both the Israelite as well as the sojourner. In this instance, the prohibition is against the consuming of animal blood. This appears to have been a common practice among ancient societies around Israel, but the Hebrews were forbidden to engage in it (see Genesis 9:4; Deuteronomy 12:16, Deuteronomy 12:23–24).
