1. Leviticus 18:30 (ESV)
  2. Application

How does Leviticus 18 relate to the New Testament?

Leviticus 18:30 (ESV)

30 So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.”

New Testament writers assume that the laws on incest (1 Corinthians 5:1ff), adultery (Romans 13:9), idolatry (1 Corinthians 10:7), and homosexuality (Romans 1:27; 1 Corinthians 6:9) still bind the Christian conscience. In the context of sexual purity, Paul consistently argued that keeping the law is the fruit of justification rather than the means of justification. Such an interpretation is faithful to the original setting of Leviticus 18:1-30. The law was given to the covenant people after their redemption from Egypt, not as a moral hurdle they had to clear if they wished to be saved.
