1. Leviticus 20:3 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How does God respond to the man who sins in this way?

Leviticus 20:3 (ESV)

3 I myself will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given one of his children to Molech, to make my sanctuary unclean and to profane my holy name.

The Lord will set his face against that man. This is a Hebrew idiom which means to punish someone. The Lord takes pagan worship by his covenant people very seriously, not only because it profanes true worship within the temple, but also because it brings dishonour to his name. Furthermore, due to the nature of idolatrous practices, it would gradually make the Lord’s people perverse and immoral.
