Given the immediate context of these words, Jesus is promising that God will answer a prayer in which the believer asks for his help to deal with the fault and failing of a fellow believer in a spirit of gentleness.1 An answer to such a prayer is guaranteed.2 More generally, Jesus could also be affirming that God will answer prayers which are in keeping with the purposes of righteousness/his kingdom (Matthew 6:33). Jesus is most certainly not promising that God will give to a believer anything and everything they might ask of him
