What does it mean for the road to be broad?

Matthew 7:13 (ESV)

13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

The broad road refers to living in a manner that is agreeable with the general philosophy and patterns of the world.1 The majority of people are found on this way.2 In the context of Jesus’ sermon, he is implying that many of the Jews who respect God and keep his commandment as taught by the leaders of their day are lost. They follow the easy way that actually ignores God’s commands.3
