How was Jesus’ teaching different from the other teachers of the time?
Matthew 7:29 (ESV)
29for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
The scribes and teachers of the law typically referred to the oral tradition as well as the opinion of other teachers in order to support their interpretations of Scripture.1 None of them had the boldness to say that their hearers would be judged according to how they responded to their words.2
29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
