How does the girl’s father receive the Levite?

Judges 19:3 (ESV)

3 Then her husband arose and went after her, to speak kindly to her and bring her back. He had with him his servant and a couple of donkeys. And she brought him into her father’s house. And when the girl’s father saw him, he came with joy to meet him.

When her father sees him, he comes with joy to meet him. We may only speculate as to why he was so happy. Maybe it was because the estrangement was a matter of disgrace for the family, so he gladly welcomes the possibility of the reconciliation of the two. Or maybe he was simply thankful for the possibility of reconciliation between his daughter and her husband.1 Or maybe, like Micah and the Danites, this man saw a family connection with a Levite as socially advantageous. That would also explain why he worked so hard to prevent the Levite from leaving.
