Well, when we are born again, and come to saving faith, and we have this desire to live according to the law of God, if you are anything like me, you think you are going to make progress. You think you are going from strength to strength, and, well, you are hoping that the day will come in this life, where you will actually be pretty much perfect. You are going to be as holy as the angels in heaven, because God is worthy. And then comes reality: the dilemma. But, Romans 7:23 says,
Joel BeekeI see another law my members, warring against the law of my mind, bringing me into captivity to the law of sin, which is in my members, [that is, in my bodily members]. So, Paul says,I have something else going on inside of me besides this delight. I have a dilemma. Another law, another principle, another power, contrary to the law of my renewed mind which is attacking me.And the other law represents the remains of my fallen nature that still lives within me. This law is always at work. It is a law of inclination to do evil. What? A Christian? Yeah, sadly.1
23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
