Why does the Levite mention the term “inheritance”?

Judges 20:6 (ESV)

6 So I took hold of my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel, for they have committed abomination and outrage in Israel.

The Levite closes his appeal to the assembly by referring to the land as Israel’s inheritance. By this, he seemingly wants to indicate that all that the Lord originally promised Israel is now under threat because of Gibeah’s actions. Thus, urgent, united action is needed. This is of course more manipulation coming from the Levite.1
