How does the assembly end?

Judges 20:11 (ESV)

11 So all the men of Israel gathered against the city, united as one man.

The assembly concludes its deliberations by gathering against the city, united as one man. They gather with a unified determination to punish Gibeah in order to achieve justice. With that, the Levite will apparently be avenged (and go unpunished for his own guilt). But in fact, he has inadvertently triggered an avalanche which is destined to lead to unimaginable consequences.1 For what good could come to God’s people when their leaders are swayed by a man of the Levite’s objectionable character?2
