Exodus 7:8–13 is the prologue to the ten plagues: Moses’ staff turning into a serpent. This is a sign, but not yet a punishment.
Starting with Exodus 7:14, we are told about the ten plagues.
Note: In most English translations of the Bible, Exodus 7:1–25 ends with verse 25.
In the Hebrew text and many translations, the versification is different. The verses Exodus 8:1–4 in the English translations are then Exodus 7:26-29 instead. Consequently, Exodus 8:5 in most English translations becomes Exodus 8:1 in the Hebrew Bible, and so on.
Vox Viva follows the versification of most English translations.
