This saying encourages you not to rate yourself too highly, especially when in the presence of high-ranking people. Be humble there. Especially then, it may happen that someone calls you to move up (to a higher position). This is honourable for you. The positive aspect of this is emphasized here.
At one time, Jesus told a parable which reminds us of this saying. We read this in Luke 14:10. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, Friend, move up higher. Then, you will be honoured in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
Jesus adds to this the promise (in Proverbs 25:11), For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Whoever, realizing their own unworthiness, accepts this promise of the most high King will at one time be welcomed in his kingdom.
