The people of Israel ask what should be done for the remaining Benjamites as far as spouses are concerned, since the Israelites foolishly swore not to give their daughters to Benjamin. This seems to signal a desire to look for loopholes in their previous decision,1 in order to get wives for the Benjamites.
7 What shall we do for wives for those who are left, since we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them any of our daughters for wives?”
