Once again we are told that the people had compassion on Benjamin. The reason for such compassion is that the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
In other words, Israel had compassion on Benjamin because they thought the breach in the tribes was all the fault of the Lord. While it is true that the Lord, in judgment for Israel’s Canaanization, commanded Israel to go on fighting Benjamin when they were ready to stop (Judges 20:28), and allowed his people to slaughter one another, Israel continues to blame God for the breach rather than take personal responsibility.
15 And the people had compassion on Benjamin because the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
