How did the man come to be where Paul was speaking?

Acts 14:8–9 (ESV)

8 Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked.

Lystra is not known to have had a Jewish synagogue.1 Most likely then, Paul spoke in the central plaza of the town.2 This would be a place where people gather for business and social interaction. This would also be a place where those who were paralysed would beg for food or money. The paralysed man was thus part of the audience who heard Paul as he preached.3
