Yes, we are justified by faith
(Romans 3:28)—a faith stands over against the law of works.
The Greek expression in Romans 3:28, choris ergon nomou, which literally translates as apart from a works-law,
points back to the preceding verse (Romans 3:27) and refers to every law or rule that appeals to human actions. That of course includes the law of Moses, but also every other religious law found among the nations. No human religious or moral actions can reconcile man to the true God. His righteousness demands something else, namely faith or trust without any accomplishment or merit.1
27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.
