16 “If I have withheld anything that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

Eliphaz had accused Job of cruelty toward the poor and helpless (Job 22:7–9). Job now swears that he is innocent of such cruelty. He has never denied the requests of the poor, nor turned his back on a widow who looked to him for help.
