Lamentations 3:46–48 (ESV)

46 “All our enemies open their mouths against us;

Left without the Lord's protection, Judah encounters enemies whose mouths are open against it, like animals waiting to devour their prey. The “pitfalls” of verse 47 is an image taken from hunting. Like an animal is terrified when it is driven into a trap, so Judah is terrified and helpless.

Jeremiah has shed many tears over the destruction of his people (Jeremiah 8:21; Jeremiah 14:17). Here he tells again of his “streams of tears.”
