Jeremiah believes that the Lord will still show mercy (see verse 32). But until this happens, he will weep. Only one thing will cause his eyes to stop flowing: when the Lord looks down on them again in mercy.
Jeremiah especially grieves for the women of his city (see Lamentations 1:4, Lamentations 1:18; Lamentations 2:10; Lamentations 2:20–21) . Think of all the women who must have lost their husbands, fiancés, and children in the war. Many women were also raped by Babylonian soldiers (Lamentations 5:11).
