For years and years, from his first prophecies (see Jeremiah 11:18–19; Jeremiah 26:11) until after the fall of Jerusalem (Jeremiah 43:2–3; Jeremiah 44:16–19), Jeremiah had to hear the words of hate and gossip spoken against him by his own people. They even made songs about him. In all their actions (“sitting and standing”), he was their target.
