As with his previous speeches, Elihu’s purpose with this one is to defend God against Job’s complaints and accusations. Elihu will not bring forth new arguments, but he will expound on what he has said earlier. Specifically, he will focus on two arguments: (1) God has kind intentions when he brings suffering over the righteous (Job 36:5–12); and (2) God is great and his ways are above human understanding.
