What kind of saving from death is in view here?

Hebrews 5:7 (ESV)

7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

“To save from death” can mean both preserving a soul from dying (James 5:20) and redeeming from death as it is occurring (Hosea 13:14). Saving from death cannot be intended here, because Jesus has died and by his death needed to destroy the power over death (see Hebrews 2:14). The content of Jesus’ prayer must therefore be that he is taken from the dead by God’s power.1
