8 “Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb,

In Job 38:4–7, it has already become apparent that Job has lost the court case. He was not present when God created the world; how can he criticize God’s governance of it? But God goes still further. In the rest of his speech, he asks Job a series of questions about his governance of creation.

First, does Job know how God has been governing the sea, since the time of its violent birth?
