Job 42:11 (ESV)

11 Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and ate bread with him in his house. And they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him. And each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold.

Job’s family and friends, who were nowhere to be found at the time of his affliction (Job 19:13–19), suddenly arrive to comfort and console him! Job would certainly agree with Proverbs 14:20: The poor are shunned by their neighbours, but the rich have many friends.

Yet Job does not react in anger or self-vindication. Once again, as of old, he receives his friends and family at his table (Job 31:31–32). He leaves all judgment in the hands of the God who sees everyone’s hearts. In the end, it is God, not people, who has restored Job’s honour.
