Revelation 1:9–20 (ESV)

9 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

Christ Jesus showed us the glory of the Father (John 1:14) and thereby demonstrated that he was the light of the world (John 8:12). After his victory on the cross, Christ has come through his Spirit to live in the hearts of his people (John 14:23). Through Christians, Jesus’ light shines in this world (Matthew 5:14; Philippians 2:15). Lights (including Christians!) do not belong on the floor but need a lampstand to give elevation and so broadcast the light. The stand on which God places believers is the church (Revelation 1:20).
