What is the reward Jesus promises?

Revelation 2:7 (ESV)

7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’

He will grant the victor the privilege to “eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” Each letter ends with some reference to the perfection to come. In this instance the Lord recalls the garden of the beginning (Genesis 2:1 – 3:24). God had planted “the tree of life…in the midst of the garden” (Genesis 2:9), which, if Adam and Eve were to eat of it after the fall, would permit them to live forever in their fallenness (Genesis 3:22, Genesis 3:24). But now that Jesus has atoned for sin and redeemed a people for himself (his church, his bride), he would give those who love him with that fitting initial love the privilege to eat of this tree and live forever in the paradise of God. Revelation 22:2, Revelation 22:14, and Revelation 22:19 will provide more details about this tree. This represents the end of exile from paradise.
