What is the significance of a register of the peoples?

Psalm 87:6 (ESV)

6 The LORD records as he registers the peoples, “This one was born there.” Selah

The basic meaning is that God knows who are his and not one of them will perish (e.g., Exodus 32:32; Psalm 69:28; Psalm 139:16; Revelation 17:8; Revelation 21:27). The idea of a register of peoples recalls Ezekiel 13:9.1
