The Lord Jesus describes the church's convictions in two clauses: “You hold fast my name” and “You did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas.” The first phrase describes ongoing activity among the Christians of Pergamum; in the passage of time they continued to confess Jesus’ name, Jesus’ supremacy as triumphant Saviour and exalted King. The second phrase (notice the past tense) refers to a one-time event; even in the days of Antipas these Christians did not deny the gospel.
13 “‘I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.
