In his reaction (Mark 10:3–8) Jesus does respond to the superficial aspect of the question but his response is especially formulated to deal with the deeper critical attitude of the Pharisees. Just as with one question they want to get entirely rid of Jesus, so Jesus shows that this one question betrays their entire spiritual position.1
