Though the designation is well known from other Scriptures (e.g., Luke 1:35; Luke 3:38; Matthew 14:33; Matthew 16:16; Matthew 17:5; Romans 1:4), this is the only place in the Revelation shown to John where the term Son of God
appears, though it is implicit in Revelation 1:6. This title appears here in preparation for the references later in the letter to Psalm 2:1–12, where the anointed King is my Son
(Psalm 2:7).
