Esther 1:6 (ESV)

6 There were white cotton curtains and violet hangings fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rods and marble pillars, and also couches of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl and precious stones.

In the Hebrew text, this verse reads like a series of exclamations. The author wants us to stand amazed at the extravagance of Ahasuerus’ banquet. White, blue and purple were seen everywhere. (In Persia, these were the colours of royalty; cf. Esther 8:15.) Guests lay on gold and silver couches and walked around on paths made from precious stones. Such was the wealth of King Ahasuerus!
