Esther 6:3 (ESV)

3 And the king said, “What honor or distinction has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” The king’s young men who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”

The king noticed that there was something amiss in the narrative. Why did it say nothing of the way in which Mordecai had been rewarded?

This omission was surprising, since the Persian kings were known for their liberality toward faithful servants. When a certain man saved the life of Ahasuerus’ own brother, that man was made governor of all of Sicily. Other rewards for faithful servants included gold and silver, land, and positions of nobility.

The attendants replied that the fault did not lie on the side of the author of the chronicles. No reward had been recorded, simply because no reward had been given.
